New "Civil Rights" movement is a distraction

Dubious about the "protest" vibe being promoted among African-Americans during the 2nd half of 2014, based on the Brown, Garner and other police killings. Yes, racist or abusive policing IS a serious issue, and the Trayvon Martin, Brown, Garner, Tamir Rice cases, etc. are useful windows into a real day-to-day problem for young blacks especially. It's good to see people pressing for thorough investigations and deep changes in police procedures. BUT, don't be distracted! This is NOT the major African-American issue of our time. The coming new year is definitely NOT the time to try to replicate the tactics of the 1960s marchers. Think about it. The REAL medium-term and long-term issue for the black population must be CAREERS and ECONOMIC GROWTH. That's where the enthusiasm among younger people must be focused, that's where the real "civil rights" movement must occur. The economy is finally growing again, and this nation has a very diverse population of peoples from all parts of the world, all in a race to make it to middle-class economic security. Most of the problems faced by African-Americans today, including police tensions are side-effects of POVERTY. Blocking streets, overturning cars, even "interrupting brunches" do NOTHING to advance the African-American career cause, in fact, ruckuses like that are usually a disincentive for employers to hire black workers. The laser-like focus for 2015 should be career growth and entrepreneurial business energy.
